How to Tie a Balthus Knot

The Balthus knot is the largest tying method among the common named tying methods, and forms a bulky and thick knot. It will best suite people who love the large knot look for their necktie. This tying methods will also be perfect for ties made from a very thin fabric which causes a small tie knot, it will also will be a good match for too long in length ties, as the large knot and many steps will reduce the length of the tie. The Balthus knot tying method starting position, unlike the major tying methods, is upside down (the back side on top).

Balthus Knot Instructions

Balthus Knot Step 1

Place the tie on your neck so the wide end of the tie will be to the right and the narrow end to the left. Place the tie so the wide end will be longer than the narrow end (about 13 inches longer).

Balthus Knot Step 2

Bring the wide end of the tie across the narrow end, behind it, to the left.

Balthus Knot Step 3

Bring the wide end of the tie upwards, above the neck loop.

Balthus Knot Step 4

Pull the wide end of the tie back down, inside the necktie loop around your neck, to the right.

Balthus Knot Step 5

Repeat steps 3-4, just to the other side now. Bring the wide end upwards above the necktie loop around your neck, then pull it down inside the neck loop, to the left.

Balthus Knot Step 6

Repeat steps 3-4 again. Bring the wide end upwards above the necktie loop around your neck, then pull it down inside the neck loop , to the right.

Balthus Knot Step 7

Turn the wide end of the tie across the narrow end, over it, to the left.

Balthus Knot Step 8

Pass the wide end of the tie upwards, inside the necktie loop around your neck.

Balthus Knot Step 9

Pass the wide end of the tie down, inside the loop which created the last step. Finally, tighten the tie around your neck.
