How to Tie a Plattsburgh Knot

The Plattsburgh Knot is a large and thick tying method, named after the small city “Plattsburgh”, in New York, where its inventor Thomas Fink was born. The Plattsburgh tying method is a bit shorten variant of the longest tying method: the Balthus Knot (skipping step 6), but still one of longest tying methods. The Plattsburgh method forms a large, triangular and symmetric tie knot, and will use a relatively long part of the necktie. The best choice for thin fabric, long neckties when the balthus knot is just too much.

Bring the wide end of the tie across the narrow end, behind it, to the left.

Plattsburgh Knot Step 3

Plattsburgh Knot Step 5

Repeat steps 3-4, just to the other side now. Bring the wide end upwards above the necktie loop around your neck, then pull it down inside the neck loop, to the left.

Plattsburgh Knot Step 6

Turn the wide end of the tie across the narrow end, above it, to the right.

Plattsburgh Knot Step 7
